Transforming Fear

I saw a whole nest of snakes this spring. Snakes are a symbol of deep transformation, so call in some snake medicine to help you shed the old and step into the new!

I know many of you are going through major life transitions right now (me too!), and while we all get that these changes are ultimately for our good, the process can be challenging while you are in it!  Below is a technique I used after my good friend suggested I actually physically write down what I was afraid of.  It actually really did help me connect with my emotions (instead of repressing them) and change my focus to what I would rather experience going forward.  Below are the directions in case you’d like to try it too!

Technique for Transforming Fear

1.  Make a list of everything you are feeling afraid of right now.  Do this with paper and pencil rather than a computer if you can and use a fresh sheet of paper.  Be sure to really dig deep on this.  I find I don’t want to write any “I am” statements with fear coming after, so I just started my list with “Things I’m worried about…” and then started each sentence with “that.”

2.  As emotions come up, take a few moments to sit with your feelings. Cry, yell, or do whatever is needed so the feelings are completely heard. Be kind to yourself.  Fear is no fun!  I find holding my hands on my forehead is also helpful (Donna Eden – Triple Warmer technique), as this will keep blood coming to the frontal lobe of the brain and help ease the fear energy.

3.  When your list is complete, select the first item on the list.  What would a positive affirmation be for this worry?  Focus on what you would love to see happen, and on a new sheet of paper, write the positive affirmation. Remember these can be specific or broad affirmations.  Just be sure that when you read it, you feel good! Continue this process for the rest of the items on your list.

4.  Take the paper with the original list of fears and find some matches. If you can do this outside, that would be great!  Take a few minutes to connect with the Earth and say a little prayer.  Safely burn the list and as you do repeat, “Thank you Angels for transforming my fears into love!”

5. Type up your list of positive affirmations and print it out.  Read it every morning (or more often if you need to) to keep your focus on what you want to create.   Be sure to ask yourself after each affirmation, how does this statement make me feel?  If you aren’t feeling anything, then you need to find a different affirmation. Find one that brings you relief and opens your heart.

Need help with the affirmations?  I’m a huge fan of Louise Hay and also Florence Scovel Shinn.

Below are a few of the positive affirmations that I came up with (many are adapted from Florence Scovel Shinn).  Feel free to use them or adapt them to fit your circumstances!

Nancy’s Affirmations

“The Divine plan for my life now comes to pass and I love every part of it!”

“My emotions are my friends!”

“My loved ones are Divinely guided in all they think, say and do and they are always protected by Angels.”

“I deserve only love, joy and abundance and I graciously allow myself to receive it!”

“The Light of Christ streams through every cell in my body and I give thanks for my radiant health and the radiant health of those I love.”

“I am grounded and peaceful, trusting that all change is good change, and my future is one of joy!”

And if all else fails, ask yourself…

“What would Donna Eden do?”

She’s my happiness guru and just thinking of her changes my energy in the right direction!  You can find lots of Energy Medicine tips and enjoy Donna’s joyous energy on You Tube.  Using Energy Medicine is a great way to start shifting from fear to love.  Here is a link to “Heaven Rushing In” with Donna in Chicago:  Heaven Rushing In

Morning Musing – Guidance For Your Day (Whatever Day You Come Upon This!)

RiverThe Vision

I am sitting on the bank of a river.  I watch at my feet as a snake slides through the sun-kissed water.  My eyes are drawn to the sky where I see a hawk flying overhead.  I become the hawk and see the river far below.  Its shape is like the snake, curving gently as it winds through the valley below.  At its mouth, the snake’s jaw seems to open wide, pouring the water into the vastness of the ocean beyond.

Snakes have been a long time phobia for me and I’ve spent the last fourteen years letting go of this fear.  They have come forward in my life every time there is a need for rebirth and often drastic change.  Though the change it brings is often challenging, ultimately, it has been a change for the better.  As I feel this image, I feel the need to be like the hawk and to see from a vaster viewpoint.  The symbol of ocean for me is connected with God-consciousness – the Divine collection of all the drops of water or souls who come together in this infinite space.  The snake is pouring out all of those journeying into the vastness of the great “I AM.”  We are moving out of our limited consciousness and into a more expanded way of being.  snake

When I see the snake swimming by my foot, I feel a wave of fear.  What if it bites me or what if I had been walking and hadn’t seen it there?  When I am the hawk, I feel no fear about the course the snake follows.  I can see how it is moving in the direction it needs to go.  As with the real snake, the only danger of experiencing pain with the snake would be if I intentionally stepped into its path. All of this speaks to me of letting go of the need to control the changes going on in my life. Like the river, the direction and path are already created.  My role is to simply follow where the water leads.  So for today, I will stop trying to predict where things are going or to force things to happen.  For today, I will act only when I feel called to act and spend the rest of the time enjoying the cool breeze, the warm sun, and the gently flowing water moving through the lush green world around me.

The Child Leads – Lessons on Creating from Love

Jacob and I hanging out at Stan Hywet Hall when he was six.
Jacob and I hanging out at Stan Hywet Hall when he was six.

As I have mentioned in other posts, I’ve become fascinated with the process of learning how to manifest from love not fear.  I’ve written a lot about this and been working with the concept with my groups and private clients.  As is always the case, the Universe responded to my request to learn with an opportunity to practice.  In this case, it came in the form of a potential change in my family life – one that is pushing all of my emotional buttons.

I went through a divorce when my son Jacob was three.  Since then, his dad and I have both remarried and Jacob has lived half time with each of us.  We’ve always lived five minutes apart which has allowed both families to be very much a part of Jacob’s life.  Just recently, the news has been shared that Jacob is most likely moving to Colorado this summer with his father’s family to finish his last two years of high school and attend college there.

Jacob and I have always had a close relationship and frankly this news was very upsetting.  The idea of him living 20 hours away from me and not being a physical part of my daily life is hard to imagine.   This led to a very early morning meditation time and the following realization, not only is this situation giving me a chance to practice what I have wanted to learn, but it is also providing a perfect example of how to manifest from love.

How Jacob Manifested His Dream

Let Love Lead…

When Jacob was 12, he went to Colorado on a ski trip with a friend.  He absolutely loved Colorado, not just because it was a good place to ski, but because of how he felt being out there.  He has always loved nature and for some reason, the mountains of Colorado really resonated with him.  After that first trip, Jacob surrounded himself with images of Colorado and talked about how much he loved it all the time.  Frankly, he became obsessed with it!  The love for Colorado has continued for the last four years.

Seek Wisdom…

Jacob started talking about wanting to go to college in Colorado not long after that first trip.  He did a lot of research on Colorado colleges and living out there.  He looked into options for getting residency and started exploring the places he would like to live online.  He talked to people he met who were living in Colorado to see how they had ended up there.  He daydreamed about living there and let himself believe it could happen.

Take Inspired Action…

Jacob took every opportunity to return to Colorado.  His dad and step mom liked to ski and soon they were taking Jacob there for trips.  Eventually, he got his dad and family to go out there for a ski trip. They fell in love with the place too which led to more trips.  Jacob even went as far as to change the location where he lived on his Facebook page to Colorado with a photo of himself skiing.  He changed his email to have Colorado in the title.  He talked about Colorado and how much he loved it all the time. He put photos on his walls, made it the screen saver on his computer, and continued to save money and take every opportunity he could to go visit.

Manifestation Occurs…

Looking at what Jacob did the last four years, I can see that he applied all the concepts shared in The Game of Life and How to Play it by Florence Scovel Shinn, even though he has never read the book. He focused unwaveringly on what he loved and wanted.  He took actions as if it already existed.  He was willing to take the leap of faith and have the courage to act when the opportunity presented itself. And now, four years later, it looks like this intention is becoming a reality.  How powerful to be able to keep focused and create like this from the age of 12 (and yes this is the proud mom in me speaking)!

 And What About Me…

While I admire Jacob’s manifestation abilities, I have to admit that I would rather he had chosen something else to create.  My heart still hurts at the thought of him moving away and I am going to have to work through the sadness and fear this change brings.  I also realize though that now it is my turn to follow my wise son’s example.

I have been talking to all of you through my writing and my work about how we are being asked to evolve and start letting love motivate our path, not fear.  We are getting the opportunity to raise our vibration and change the way our species functions on this planet.  I get the concepts very well intellectually.  I believe them and really can see how it can work.  Now, I’m getting a chance to start practicing what I preach.

My Plan

How can I come from love for myself and my family in this situation?  How can I respond in a way that is both empowering for Jacob, but also empowering for me? I believe I need to start by looking at all of this in a different way then I would have in the past.  Starting today, I am going to focus on what I want too, starting with a close, interactive, adult relationship with Jacob.  I am going to remember all the great conversations and fun experiences we have shared over the years, not with sadness, but with the intention of reminding the Universe that I want more of that (thank you soul friend Anne Wondra for this great technique!).  I am going to see this big change, not as a loss, but as an expansion.  A chance to have new experiences, new adventures, and a new way of connecting and sharing with the son that I so greatly love and admire.  I am going to take actions, just like this blog post, to act as if this new aspect of our relationship already exists, because deep down, I know in my heart that it really does.  I am also going to start looking for ways my husband and I can create what we would love to experience in this new phase of our lives, that allows us to grow and enjoy life while also staying close to our sons who are living (or may be living) on opposite sides of the country.

Insights to Help Us All

In closing, I want to share a few tips to support us all as we go through these major changes. As we set the intention to raise our vibration and start living from love, the places that restrict that process gets highlighted.  As I have been so vividly reminded by this latest example, the process can feel very painful, especially when we look through fear at what is happening.  Re-training our nervous system and re-framing what is happening can help us move more solidly into seeing through the eyes of love.

Tips to Manage Transformation

1.  Calm the Triple Warmer Meridian:  When changes happens, it is natural to have the body begin to prepare for danger.  This process is something that has been hard-wired into our beings as a survival mechanism.  Unfortunately, it isn’t always able to decipher what is really a threat and what isn’t.  Using the techniques shared by Donna Eden in her book Energy Medicine to balance the triple warmer meridian (that governs the survival response) is a very powerful way to calm your system.  I have included resource links at the bottom of this post.  A quick and powerful technique is to hold your hands on your forehead and think about whatever is causing you stress.  Gradually, you will find the powerful emotions ease and you are able to shift into a more loving viewpoint of what is happening.

2.  Focus on Self-Care:  Thankfully, I’ve spent the last fourteen years learning how to take care of my very highly sensitive system.  All those tools have been really helpful through this process.  Some of my favorites are – yoga mudras, meditation, sessions with my very talented soul friend healers, yoga, walks, lying on the grass, going for walks, and getting extra rest. Again, resource links are included below.

3.  Laugh:  While I was in the midst of the fear about this change happening in my life, I kept asking for guidance and over and over again I saw the image of myself laughing.  Every time I would focus on the image, I could feel my system relax.  Watch for opportunities to laugh and take advantage of them.  Remember to smile, even when you feel like crying.  It is a powerful tool to help shift your energy and move into a love state and out of fear.

4.  Remember you are not alone:  It is times like these I am so glad that I had the intention of creating a community of lightworkers to go through this process with!  The experiences that are pushing this growth may not be the same, but we can all relate to the feeling that some force is pushing us to change.  Just like a seedling that feels this compulsion to move up without knowing what it is going to find once it breaks through the surface, we are being called to grow.  Reminding each other that there is a beautiful life waiting for us once we emerge can help us all go through this change in the gentlest and easiest way possible.  When the struggle is not our own, it is much easier to hold and know the truth.  Sometimes we need a friend to do this for us, when we are not able to do it on our own.  Much thanks to all my beautiful friends and family who have been reaching out with love to support me and a special thanks to my dear friend Lori Byrnes for being there during the times when the fear gets the better of me.

Insights from the Retreat – How to Manifest from Love

Sanctuary Lily LogoI have been practicing manifesting from love, instead of taking action based on fears.  Last Saturday was the Sacred Circles Spring Retreat.  The retreat went really smoothly and brought together a great group of people at the perfect time to have a transformational experience.  This was a wonderful confirmation for me, as my intention was to put into practice the concept we’d be teaching at the event.  The idea is to shift from a survival based approach to living.  In our world, we typically begin with a fear (or underlying worry), then jump to taking action to counter the fear.  I believe we are moving into a new age where the rules of fear based living don’t work well.  To manifest in this new vibrational reality, we must begin with love, seek out wisdom about the best way to proceed, and then take inspired action on the wisdom we are given.

I found this experience to offer deep learning.  It was amazing to see how fear could sneak into the process and how things would freeze up the minute it did.  It was also so beautiful to see how well things worked when I kept my heart centered on what I really would love to see happen and kept letting go of the fears.   As I feel this is the process we all need to work with in this new vibrational reality, I thought it might be helpful to share a few insights from my experience.

Reflections on the Process

Create only from love:  I found that it took some deep work to really catch all the places where I was letting fear of lack get into the process of creating.  I spent a lot of time working with affirmations and letting go of agendas, so I could truly keep the focus on teaching this technique of manifesting (both to myself and those who came to the event). Addressing and working through those fears not only led to this amazing event, it also helped me to clear some false ideas about how things really work.  Releasing fears and trusting the process helped to strengthen the muscles of this new way of functioning.

Remember to work with Divine Timing:  Initially, we were going to have the event in March.  I was really disappointed when I kept getting the message that we needed to wait until April.  How perfect though that we ended up with a date that fell at the end of the Great Cardinal Cross week.  The energies were primed for a truly transformational experience.  Deep and permanent shifts were open to the participants and it was so gratifying to watch them making these shifts!

Trust in Divine Order:  I have created many events and one thing that I have learned is that those who are meant to be there are always there.  The groups that were formed for yesterday’s event were no exception.  The needs of individual participants dove-tailed so well in the small groups and really beautiful connecting and support were created as a result.

Remember to Accept Support:  Not only did this experience bring so many confirmations of the support and guidance from my Spiritual Guides and Angels, but it also brought support from my wonderful colleagues, Kathleen, Deb, and Jana, as well as the kindness of those who came and even the loved ones who helped behind the scenes.  Survival based living can be a very isolating experience.  When we open to living a life motivated by love, we find ourselves surrounded by others who offer love.  Allowing myself to receive this was one of the greatest gifts of this whole process.

Below are some of the affirmations I adapted from Florence Scovel Shinn (The Wisdom of Florence Scovel Shinn) which really helped me stay focused on what I wanted to create.  Feel free to adapt them for whatever you wish to manifest (you can change out “event” for relationship, job, health challenge, etc.).

“I give thanks that the walls of resistance fall down around this event and all lack, limitation, and failure are wiped out of my consciousness.”

“All doors now open for happy surprises and the Divine plan for this event is speeded up with grace.”

“All people I seek are now seeking me.”

“Only love enters this event and only love is shared.”

“The Divine Design of this event now comes to pass.”

“This retreat now fills the place that it can fill and nothing else can fill.  It allows me to do what I can do and no one else can do.”

“I give thanks that this event registration is now filled by the right people for the right price, giving perfect satisfaction and fulfillment for all involved.”

Wishing you all great joy as you practice this new way of creating!

Happy spring!

Grow Your Gifts Meditation – Uncover the True Self

Hopewell Mound

I uncover my true self and connect to my power and wisdom with ease.

This photo was taken at Hopewell Monument National Park.  I spent some time on the ground on the other side of the large mound in the center of the photo.  It has amazing energy!  The sycamore really stood out too.  In Ted Andrew’s Nature-Speak, sycamore means “nourishment and beauty abound; new life and new gifts.”   Another section describes it in this way, “The sycamore awakens the feminine energies of intuition, beauty and nourishment around us.  It can open us to the energies of love and Nature and all their magnificent aspects.  The sycamore will augment all connections to Nature, and its appearance in our life encourages us to draw upon the realm of Nature for health, abundance and inspiration.”   You might want to do this two times.  One to connect with the energy of the Earth around the large mound and the second time to connect with the energy of the sycamore.

How to Work with the Image to Support the Process

  • Take a moment to center yourself.  Close your eyes and breathe in and out slowly three times.  Let your exhale be longer than your inhale.
  • Open your eyes and focus on the image.  Ask your Spiritual Support Team to help you come into harmonic resonance with the image and to receive the amount of energy from the essence of the place for your highest and best good.
  • Use your imagination to put yourself in the photo.  Use all your senses to interact with what is shown.  What do you feel, see, hear, smell, taste and touch as you connect?
  • Ask for Divine guidance on how you can incorporate the gifts from this essence into your own life and situation.  Allow yourself to feel the love and support flowing to you and through you from the Earth and the Divine.
  • Repeat the affirmation (see caption) as you breathe in and out slowly.
  • Be open to any additional thoughts, sounds, smells, or images that come to you as you are working with the photo.  Consider these as messages to support you on your path.  Ask what these impressions mean to you.  What do they make you think or feel?
  • Continue to recall the image throughout the day when you wish to bring in the energy it provides.
  • Express your gratitude for the gifts given to you through the experience.

 Have a wonderful day!

Morning Musings – Guidance for Your Day (Whatever day you come upon it!)

I asked for guidance this morning and thought I’d share what came through.  I hope you find it helpful!

Butterfly on pink flower

The Vision…

I see a butterfly pinned to a corkboard.  The butterfly begins to twitch and then its wings open, pushing out the pins.  It lifts off into a beautiful blue sky.

In Ted Andrew’s Animal Speak Pocket Guide, he says of butterflies, “New Birth:  New love and joy are coming.  Transformation is inevitable but will be easier than expected.  Embrace the new beginnings.”  The fact that the butterfly starts out pinned to a corkboard as if it is part of a science project is interesting to me.  What does it mean that my joy and transformation is something pinned up to be studied?  The fact that the butterfly comes to life suggests that while I have done a lot of work learning about how to live in love, perhaps I am now ready to actually begin living it.

Today, I will remember that I am already evolved into a creature able to live from love. I will allow myself to fully embrace this new reality and open my arms to bright skies and new horizons!  As Louise Hay says on the I Can Do It calendar for this date, “Today, I trust that my future is in good hands.” Remembering this allows me to fully be present in the joy of today.

I pray it is so, and so it is!

Have a beautiful day filled with blue skies and unbounded happiness!

Last weekend, I went on an adventure with some of my Raise Your Vibration participant Soul Friends.  We went to see the Hopewell Mounds, the Serpent Mound, and to Hocking Hills State Park.  It was a transformative experience on many levels!   Below are some of the insights I gained from the trip.  I hope you find them helpful too!

Retreat Reflections

Angels are great travel companions – As I always do, I asked the Angels to go first through all phases of this trip.  While we had a few directional challenges, overall the whole trip went really smoothly.  We even made an impromptu stop at Lancaster on the way home when we discovered my family was all meeting there for lunch (they’d all been in different parts of the state on separate adventures!).  I also was blessed with six Earth angels to be hanging out with.  What an amazing group of people!  Not only were they inspirational and lots of fun, they were also incredibly supportive and kind. I had hurt my back the week before and I felt so taken care of from the beginning to the end of this experience.

Getting older doesn’t have to be a bad thing – As my son approaches the end of high school, I find myself worrying a bit about growing older and what the last half of my life will look like.  This trip gave me a whole new perspective on that! Four of the seven people attending were over 60.  They were all great role models for how to really enjoy life!  Pilar and Sussie were especially inspirational.  They had more energy, more playfulness, and more enthusiasm than the rest of us combined.  I learned so much from their ability to really savor and enjoy everything – from the sweet potato at dinner to the beautiful rock formations to the wind chimes at a local shop.  Their openness to learning new things and complete joy in sharing who they are was such a beautiful gift to us all.

Being yourself is a lot of fun – I would guess that most of us don’t always feel comfortable being completely ourselves.  When you are with people who are so completely unconcerned about what others think, you see how free that can make you. My wonderful soul friend Pilar gifted all those we met with the sounds of her turtle drum, tuning forks or her pan flute.  She dressed in vibrant colors and happily shared stories and wisdom with everyone who came along the path.  At Ash Cave, she sang a prayer in its original language and her beautiful voice called in the Angels through the whole cave structure.

Ken and Amel at the Hopewell Mounds

Our dear friend Ken explained to the park ranger at Hopewell National Monument that he was bringing his crystal skull, Amel, to soak up the energy of the mounds, unconcerned that she would find that a bit odd.  Sussie couldn’t wait to pull over at an unusual rock formation on the side of the road. Her excited exploration turned up a beautiful ice sculpture made by Mother Earth that we would have missed if she hadn’t been willing to explore off the beaten path. She also was the one who came to the rescue when we had an unexpected night-time visitor in the form of a renegade chipmunk!   Tracie’s adventuring spirit led her and Shannon to explore some parts of Old Man’s Cave not seen by most.  Angie’s willingness to take the lead and make a decision brought us the wonderful gift of the Wind Chime and Candle shops. Everyone happily shared their intuitive and healing gifts throughout the weekend which was such a blessing for us all.

There are no wrong turns –  We ended up going the wrong direction a few times while we were in Hocking Hills.  I learned through this experience with these very wise souls, that there really are no wrong turns. It all just became part of the adventure, giving us more to see, more conversations to have, and an opportunity for us all to stretch our map reading skills.  Being with people who took everything in stride really helped me see that perspective is everything. Flowing with life is so much easier than trying to fight against it.

susie cave
The beautiful rock formations inside of Sussie’s cave.

I can trust myself – Sometimes being with a lot of people can be challenging for me.  On Saturday, I found myself feeling a little overloaded.  I’m an introvert, which means recharging is something that requires some alone time. In the past, I would have made myself stay with everyone.  This time, I took an hour to rest upstairs on my own and to take a short walk outside.  It was just what I needed to come back refreshed and ready to enjoy some more adventures. Knowing I could honor what I needed and take care of myself was another great gift this experience provided.

I’m looking forward to my next adventure and sending much love to my wonderful travel companions for an amazing experience!

Much love to all of you who have shared a bit of it through this post too.

Celebrate Spring! – Grow Your Gifts Meditation

"I celebrate the love blossoming in me by sharing joy and laughter all day long!"
“I celebrate the love blossoming in me by sharing joy and laughter all day long!”

It is snowing outside, but the birds seem to think spring is still coming.  I thought this would be a good day to focus on celebrating spring by visualizing what we would like to experience this season (beginning with NO SNOW!).  Spring is a great time to create new things and explore new opportunities.  As we head into this new season, let your heart be focused on love.  Letting love lead, we can create from joy, drawing to us more and more opportunities to be happy.  Wishing you all a joyous and laughter-filled spring!

Manifesting with the “Divine Idea”

I have been reading a really interesting book called The Wisdom of Florence Scovel Shinn.  It is filled with wonderful affirmations and I found myself experimenting with one this week, so I thought I would share.  One of the things I find challenging with the Law of Attraction concepts is deciding what it is I want to manifest.  I find myself coming up with too many different things and jumping from one affirmation to another.  That’s why I love this concept of the “Divine idea.”  The phrase Scovel Shinn uses in the book is “Let the Divine idea come out of this situation.”  What I love about this is that it leaves the manifestation details up to the Divine.  I am able to relax knowing that whatever is highest and best for me will come about, even if I’m not exactly sure what that looks like yet.  Plus, I’ve found when I leave it up to the Divine without limiting my intention things turn out even more abundantly wonderful than I would have thought to ask for!

This week I experimented with a few variations on this affirmation for different situations.  Here are the ones I came up with:

For a relationship situationLet the Divine idea of this relationship manifest with ease.

For a financial situationLet the Divine idea of my financial prosperity manifest with ease.

For a health issueLet the Divine idea of my physical health and well-being manifest with ease.

For a career issueLet the Divine idea of my work manifest with ease.

That’s just a few possibilities.  Take whatever your concern is and customize it to your situation! After you come up with the affirmation, repeat it to yourself frequently, especially when you start to doubt that things are going to work out as you hope.  I find it brings me instant peace and my energy system expands and opens.  I have also had some noticeable positive shifts in the topics I have been saying the affirmations for, even with only using it off and on for a few days!

I’ve added the book to my Amazon store here if you want to take a look:  The Wisdom of Florence Scovel Shinn

Happy Manifesting!
